Prof. Fernando Alberìcio is a distinguished scholar in the field of peptide synthesis and characterization. He is an Emeritus professor at University of Barcelona, Department of Organic Chemistry, where he was a full professor until 2023. Currently, he is research professor in the School of Chemistry and Physics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN, South Africa). In his long academic career, he has covered several academic positions including, just to mention a few of them, Leader of the Institut for Research in Biomedicine of Barcelona, Barcelona Science Park (2003-2015), PI of the CIBER-BBN, Networking Centre on Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (Spain, 2005-2023), Rector of the University of Yachay (Ecuador, 2014-2015), Visiting Professor at the School of Chemistry of King Saud University (Ryad, Saud Arabia). He was involved in more than 50 industrial projects and had numerous executive employments in several companies, many of which were founded by him: Barcelona Science Park (Spain), Millipore-Waters Corporation, Boston (USA), DiverDrugs S.L., Barcelona (Spain), Medalchemy S.L., Alicante (Spain), GenMedica S.L., Barcelona (Spain), Argo Pharma S.L., Barcelona (Spain), Barcelona Innovation Partners (Spain), BioDurban (South Africa). He also received countless worldwide awards, as for instance in 2024 only: Lifetime Achievement Award, European Peptide Synthesis Conference, Josef Rudinger Memorial Lecture Award, European Peptide Society, Meienhofer Lifetime Achievement Award, Boulder Peptide Foundation (USA). He collaborates with approximately 30 journal editorial boards and his scientific work led to the production of more 21 bioactive products. To date, he has published over 950 scientific articles, with more than 32000 citations (H-index 86), and issued 18 international patents. He supervised 81 Ph.D. students and was the PI of nearly 30 competitive grants in the last 15 years only.
