Prof. Beatriz G. de la Torre is a research professor at the KwaZulu-Natal Research and Innovation Sequencing Platform (KRISP), College of Health Sciences, University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (UKZN, South Africa). Her research interests are focused on the discovery of new antimicrobial peptides, including those for fighting tuberculosis, peptide-based vaccines, and peptide-based drug-delivery systems, and she has been working extensively chemistry of glyco, nucleo-, and lipopeptides. In recent times, she is also deeply involved in developing GREEN Solid-Phase Peptide Synthesis Strategies. Prof. de la Torre obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Barcelona (Spain) in 1993; joined the âConsejo Superior de Investigaciones CientĂficas (CSIC), Spainâ becoming the director of the oligo-nucleotides section (1994-1998), and she has also been a Research Associate at the University of Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, 2003-2014). To date she has published over 255 scientific articles, with more than 6000 citations, and her H-index is 43. She owns 3 international patents and is involved in 18 collaborations with Industrial projects. She has successfully supervised 15 doctoral students during her scientific career.
